Hey there! I’m Angie a United States based woman. I made this website for my Filkins family to have and build upon for future generations to come. The Filkins family began in Michigan and has well over 4 thousand family members. Grandma Hattie Burks (Filkins) and Grandpa Joseph Filkins had 15 kids together.
Grandma Hattie was born February 11th, 1917 in Kentucky as Hattie Burks. She passed away January 13th, 1997. I along with many of my cousins have nothing but fond memories of her. Grandma had a way about her that she was able to make everyone of her grandchildren feel as if they were her favorite. She was very kind, loving and patient. I have heard that her family owned a tobacco farm.
Grandpa Joseph Filkins was born April 17th, 1912 in Millington Michigan and subsequently died April 13, 1986. As with grandma I really loved my grandpa, he was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed farming and even won a contest for growing the largest head of cabbage which made the local news. Grandpa also enjoyed word working and made many things such as wooden elephant rocking horses. He also enjoyed fishing and raised his own worms for bait, as well as made some of his own lures.
